Datamaxx Receives Prestigious Governor's Award

Datamaxx One of Only Nine Businesses in Florida Recognized for Excellence and Corporate Citizenship

Tallahassee, Florida - (September 30, 2002) - The Datamaxx Group (Datamaxx) recently received the 2002 Governor’s Business Leadership Award in recognition of its excellence and corporate citizenship.  Datamaxx was one of only nine companies in Florida to be presented with this prestigious distinction.

Nominated by the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Datamaxx was officially recognized for its economic and civic contributions by Florida Governor Jeb Bush during a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion on Monday, September 16, 2002.  The event kicked off the 19th Annual Industry Appreciation Week (Sept. 16-20), which was created to spotlight excellence in Florida’s business community.  A total of 51 nominees from throughout the state were evaluated based on a number of factors, including total increase in employment, increase in capital investment, civic contributions and involvement in current business issues such as recycling, a drug-free workplace and quality assurance.

“Datamaxx has demonstrated its commitment to creating jobs for Floridians, increasing capital investment and being a good corporate citizen, and in doing so, is truly a model for Florida businesses,” said Darrell Kelley, president and CEO of Enterprise Florida, the public-private economic development organization that coordinates the awards program.  “We applaud and appreciate their efforts.”

“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to providing first-rate technology, service and support to our client base and our employees.  The continuing success of Datamaxx is the result of a collaborative effort by a number of devoted individuals,“ said Kay Stephenson, president and CEO of Datamaxx.  “This has been a tremendous year for our team. In June Datamaxx was awarded the 2002 Technology Business of the Year by The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.”

The Datamaxx Group, comprised of Datamaxx Applied Technologies, Datamaxx Enterprise Intelligence and Datamaxx Professional Services, is the premier provider of communication systems, support and consulting to law enforcement, criminal justice and government organizations. With over 10,000 installations serving more than 70% of the law enforcement communications market, the Datamaxx Group has been setting the standard for the industry nationwide since its inception.

This commitment to leadership was clearly demonstrated in the hours immediately following the September 11th tragedy.  Datamaxx quickly stepped forward to donate equipment and services needed to enhance wireless data communications for the New York City Police Department and the New York Office of Emergency Management at Ground Zero.

To ensure it recruits and retains the most highly qualified employees, Datamaxx takes special stock in implementing innovative ideas and premier incentive programs to maintain an ideal work environment.  The corporate headquarters includes a complete, on-site fitness center with separate men and women shower and locker facilities and is open to employees and their spouse’s seven days a week.  Employees are offered continuing education opportunities, aid and assistance as well as full medical coverage, paid sick leave, vacation and personal days.

Datamaxx has been at the forefront of Florida’s business issues, having instituted a drug-free workplace program, a recycling initiative and a highly successful quality assurance process.  Datamaxx also has demonstrated its commitment to community service through participation in activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, United Way of the Big Bend and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida, the privately held, Florida-certified and woman-owned minority enterprise offers the depth of industry expertise, breadth of product capabilities, and the ability to bring it all together with world-class integration and support.  Superb engineering, significant investments in research and development, and the talent of dedicated industry professionals have led to numerous accolades and rave reviews, but most importantly, fierce customer loyalty.

Founded in August 1991, Datamaxx has grown from a local Tallahassee company of five employees to a national leader in providing technology solutions to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies with 90 employees working at its corporate headquarters.  Datamaxx has additional employees in satellite offices in Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, and West Virginia and serves more than 100,000 end users in 35 states, Canada and Guam, including every law enforcement agency in the State of Florida.

In November of 2001, Datamaxx relocated to its state-of-the-art, $5.6 million, 32,500 square foot corporate headquarters in the Offices at SouthWood in Tallahassee, Florida.  The facility includes an advanced technology center with videoconferencing capabilities used for training and recruitment, distance learning, as well as customer marketing presentations and customer training curriculums.  The center also is available to the community for use by appointment.
